April 14th, 2010 Does success come from the individual or by group efforts?
There was a quote given to me by my instructor.
"Success is more likely to come from individual efforts as opposed to group efforts."
I don’t find any plausible or reasonable explanation regarding if it’s true.
I’m having troubles with it. Doesn’t it take group efforts to suceed in anything? For example, the military, political parties, fraternizations, corporations. I have no idea how success is more likely to come from individual effort than group effort. May someone please share their personal opinions or comments
I wouldn’t say its a requisite, but it does help:
"You can have anything you want in this world, just so long as you help others get what they want"

to define success, there must be a goal involved.
In a group effort, there will always be people who are not contributing any effort.

individuals are more responsible when they are not in groups.

I’ve found that individually you have to work really hard to get where you want to go. If it’s for yourself. If it’s for a company it would be a group because minds work together to make something huge happen.
For just one person it seems that people are often jealous, and will do anything to see you fail. Fighting through the times people tell you what your doing is impossible, and so on. That’s when your individual power makes you a success….

It depends where your starting point is. If you take entrepreneurs, the likes of Alan Sugar, Bill Gates, Donald Trump they all had successes by their individual effort.
If you take the examples you cite then, yes, group efforts will pay dividends.

Groups seldom function successfully (look at Tucker – forming, norming, storming, performing) There are likely to be areas of conflict which can slow goal achievement. Goals can also be unclear or in conflict – friendly fire during a war, defeat of a bill in Parliament, red tape and committees slowing things down.

Depends on who you talk to. I don’t like "or" but "both."

Personal success comes out through personal and individualistic efforts; leaders achieve success and glory when they work together in a group. Both ways, success may come.

If each individual doesn’t work hard in whatever area, there generally will not be success in that area.
