As we are all aware, there are many people out in the world today looking for a new job. In this brief article I will share some ideas that I picked up from and article in Septemeber 2009 Bottom Line Magazine that was written by Richard Nelson Bolles. Mr. Bolles is the author of What Color Is Your Parachute, A well known book.
In this article it talks about the many different ways to get yourself out in the job world and the odds of landing an interview and ultimately an job. The followings stats come from reserach based on industry studies.
People that blind mail resumes have only a 5% chance of landing a job.
People that Respond to ads in a Professinal Journal have a 7% chance of Landing a job.
People that Respond to ads on Internet job sites have a 10% chance of finding a job.
People that respond to Ads in the Newspaper have a 5%-24% chance of finding a job.
People working with a Private Employment Firm have a 5%-28% chance of finding a job.
People that Netwrok for leads have a 33% chance of finding a job.
People Kocking on doors unannounced have a 47% chance of finding a job.
People calling Companies of Interest have a 69% chance of finding a job.
People that Partner with a Job Hunter have a 70% chance of finding a job.
People that use Self evaluation and access your job related skills and then focus on companies that line up with that assesment offer the best chance of employment in the conventional job market. The people that take the time to really understand what they have to offer have an 86% chance of finding a job.
I was recently faced with a similar situation. I was released from my 32 year career as a sales manager. As I looked for a job in the conventional market place I was faced daily with frustration. After several months of using the methods above, I started thinking outside the box. I eventually wound up in an online business that offered all of the rewards and satisfactions of my prior career. I was able to replace my six figure income in just five months and my earning potential is far greater than I could have ever expected. While I took some risk and had some investment, the trade off of the rewards I experience now make that look like an easy decision. I am my own boss, work from anywhere I want and at anytime I want. No one can let me go or send me to HR. I just get up every morning and follow the guidence of the man in the mirror. Many of you that are reading this right now have spent your entire life teaching people how to be a leader. You are obviously one as well and you will be rewarded for your hard work and risk reward ratio.
